it’s not as difficult as it may seem!

step 1. find a 3D model.

just google for for example “3D model chair”. don’t google for “free 3D model” as the results will be worst.

i personally often use Sketchfab. here are the results for a AK47: https://sketchfab.com/tags/ak47

but other sites can work too!

check for the small grey “download icon” that indicates a free download.

you can use a few file types. i use FBX files.

you’ll need the top one. (fbx)

these 3D file types are supported in clip studio: source

“CLIP STUDIO 3D Character format (extension: cs3c), CLIP STUDIO 3D Object format (extension: cs3o), CLIP STUDIO 3D Background format (extension: cs3s), fbx, 6kt, 6kh, lwo, lws, obj”

after that open a canvas. don’t just start up the program. actually open up a canvas, and click file + import + 3D Data(M)…

then go to the folder you’ve downloaded your model to and simply double click it.

it’s now on your canvas! good job! you can drag the 3D model into your assets menu for later use.

simply drag the layer into the correct folder.

now how to use and edit the model?

The grey circle with the arrows on the corners will scale the model. movement circles are yellow when active.

The blue circle rotates the model.

click and drag the blue circle. it will turn yellow.

The green circle rotates the model horizontally.

the pink circle will rotate the model vertically.

the middle dot will move the layer over the canvas in a 2D plane.

click the wrench icon to remove parts of your 3D model. like the scope on this gun.

The “acog” box is unchecked which is the red dot equipped on the 3D model.

click the camera icon to use a present. keep in mind that most 3D models will not have a specified front and back so the program’s examples may be reversed.

these are the most common controls. there are more controls available as you can see in the bar. hovering over them will reveal what they do.

example of a artwork using a 3D model for the rifle. check out the writers artwork here
